The first road into the Yosemite vally from Wawona nd the South Gate originally climbed over a very hish and steep ridge before dropping down into Yosemite. Later this difficult and dangeroous section of road was replaced by the present tunnel through the ridge, to the first view of the Yosemite Valley.
