We started in London, (photos 1-17)
Then moved out of London to Windsor (photo 18) is the approach to Windsor Castle, still a home to the Queen of England.
We then drove about 100 miles north to Bakewell in Derbyshire and stayed at the Rutland Arms hotel in Bakewell (as in Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice') Here is where we had single beds and you were 'unwell'. (photo 19)
From Bakewell we visited Chatsworth House (Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice) (photos 20-27)
After Bakewell we moved further north into Derbyshire, to Monsall Dale (photos 28-30) and then drove further north through Derbyshire (photo 31) and climbed Snake Pass (photos 32-33) over the Pennine mountains, staying the night at the Snake Inn near the summit of Snake Pass - very wild.
The next day in mist and rain we dropped down the western side of the Pennines (photo 34) to Glossop where we stayed two or three nights. This was when you went to visit Celia with a package from me in Oman. One night we drove in to Manchester to go to the Library Theatre. I have no memory of what play we saw. The weather was terrible, cold and wet, and we got a taxi back to where we parked the car. Back to Glossop for the night, where it was so cold you went to bed without undressing. I don't seem to have taken any photos of Glossop at the foot of Snake Pass, Stalybridge or the Manchester area.
After Glossop we drove north into Yorkshire, and stayed at the Royal Oak Inn in Settle (photo 35 and 36), next day we explored the small market (photos 37-39), did some shopping (photo 40) and walked round the village (photo 41)
From Settle we went for a day at Stainforth (about 3 miles away) to see the waterfalls and the narrow mediaeval pack-horse bridge (photos 42-54). This is where you played 'he-loves-me' (photo 51). Walked a little (photos 52-54), then back to the Royal Oak in Settle for the night.
Next day we drove past Malham Cove, the big white limestone cliff face, (photo 55) then north again past all the white limestone walls around fields (photo 56) to Dentdale (very wild, lots of sheep, one with two lambs (photo 57)
You hurt your hand (photo 58) - I don't really know where this happened or how, but you were OK at Stainforth so I put it in here.
From Dentdale, over Newby Head and down into Hawes in Wensleydale, on across the river to Hardrow to the waterfall (photo 59)
Then north and west into the Lake District, an object of a tour in Pride and Prejudice, which they never reached (photo 60), I can't remember which town this was, but this is where I think you got the plates (photos 61-64). Do you perhaps recognise the shop?
Then some time by Lake Windermere (photos 65-67). I don't remember where we stayed in the Lake District, but we must have done.
Then a fast drive down south to London and a flight to Oman, arriving in the morning and back home to bed.
